"Band Together" is the 8th episode of The Fresh Beat Band.

Summary[]

The episode begins with Shout playing the trombone in the lobby, which draws Kiki and Marina's attention. Then Shout informs the viewer that they will be playing new instruments at Music School. Twist was still sleeping, so Shout decided to awaken him by playing his trombone. Twist awoke comedically posing as a military sergeant. Twist claims to be ready to go, but there's one detail: he's still wearing his pajamas! In a comedically quick manner, Twist removes his pajamas and returns them to his room.

Twist and Shout are both excited to be playing a new instrument at Music School. Shout was so excited that his trombone slide flew off while he played it! Shout was hoping to play an instrument with the other Fresh Beats, so he asked Twist what instrument he wanted to play, and Twist demonstrated by making some strange noises out of his mouth, uncertain of what instrument could sound like that. Because he is unsure of what instrument he has in mind, he proposes that he and the other Fresh Beats go to The Good Note Music Store and ask Reed, who knows a lot about music. They perform the song "Get Up And Go Go" as they prepare to go to Reed's music store.

The Fresh Beats eventually make it to The Good Note and are in awe of all of the amazing instruments they see. Reed came out of the store with a huge bassoon in his hands and began playing some notes on it. Then he took out Shout's trombone slide, which had flown out as he was playing it. Shout reattached the trombone's slide, and the trombone was as good as new. However, after viewing the other instruments in the store, Shout considers playing one of them instead.

In the meantime, Twist finds a tambourine for Kiki and gives it to her, who bangs and rattles it. Twist also found and played a harmonica, describing it as "very harmonical." Other fascinating instruments that Twist noticed included the ukulele, bass drum, violin, bagpipes, and French horn, all of which he thought were really cool. Twist then asks Reed if he has any instruments with a certain tone. Then he demonstrated what he meant by making unusual sounds with his mouth, which Reed compared to swallowing an entire orchestra for breakfast.

Despite the fact that Twist wanted to play a variety of instruments, Kiki advised him to focus on just one, and Twist couldn't decide which one to play. Twist then collects a variety of instruments, including jingle bells, a drum, a ukulele, maracas, a cymbal, a kazoo, a tambourine, a harmonica, a washboard, a bass drumstick, and another kazoo. Shout decided to play the concertina after some consideration. It leapt up in the air as he placed it on the table. Marina chooses to play the xylophone, while Kiki chooses to play the cowbell. Twist is clearly struggling to keep all of those instruments in his hands, to the point where he kicked the bass drum away by accident. The Fresh Beats sing "Friends Give Friends A Hand" while assisting Twist with the bass drum.

They begin practicing as soon as they acquire the bass drum, and it appears that things are not going well. Due to the inconvenient nature of having so many instruments in his hands, Twist is unable to play the song. He can't seem to manage to play all of them. Twist eventually realizes that it doesn't sound all that great. That's when Twist had the creative idea of visiting a pet store, where he'd find a gigantic and extremely talented octopus, capable of playing all of Twist's instruments with all of its eight arms. While Marina agrees that it's a cool idea, she suggests that Twist limit himself to one instrument. Twist seems to find this difficult because he wants to play all of the instruments! Kiki then recommends that they rehearse it once they arrive at Music School. They eventually made it to Music School, though with some difficulty due to the numerous instruments that needed to be brought.

Twist suddenly had an idea of the new instrument he wanted to play—or rather, the one he wanted to construct. It required the use of all of his instruments, as well as Marina's xylophone, Shout's concertina, and Kiki's cowbell. All of those instruments united to form a magnificent work of art, an all-in-one instrument appropriate for a one-man band. Twist was having trouble playing it, as cool as it appeared. He couldn't find some of the instruments on him, which was an inconvenient situation to cope with. When he tried to play it, it didn't sound so great. Twist eventually realizes that he's just making a lot of noises and not actually playing the song. Twist says that because Kiki, Shout, and Marina's instruments are all on Twist, they can play them on him to play the song. Ms. Piccolo then entered the room and observed Twist's new instruments, or rather, new instrument, and hoped it sounded as good as it looked. Finally, the Fresh Beats perform "Band Together," their song for Music School, in which they sing about how singing solo might be fun, but singing in a group is even more enjoyable.

Finally, the Fresh Beats performed their song, which Ms. Piccolo adored as usual. Twist's instruments, on the other hand, flew away after he spun around. Fortunately, Kiki, Marina, Shout, and Ms. Piccolo all caught them in the act. Twist is now saddened since he no longer has a new instrument because his collection of instruments has indeed been ruined. Twist illustrates what he wants his new instrument to sound like, as he has done previously, and Ms. Piccolo reminds him that he already sounds like that; his voice is his instrument. Thanks to Ms. Piccolo's knowledge, Twist discovers that he doesn't need any of those instruments and that he is his favorite instrument. Ms. Piccolo said her goodbyes to the Fresh Beats and strolled out of the classroom singing portions of the song they performed, even mocking Twist's scatting in a humorous way.
