"Brave the Last Dance" is the second segment of the 96th episode of The Loud House, and also the series' Valentine's Day episode (though it and its partner episode, "Singled Out", premiered the day after Valentine's Day of 2020).
Summary[]
While making preparations for Royal Woods Elementary's Valentine's dance, Clyde develops a crush on his fellow dance-planning committee member Emma (having by now gotten over his previous crush on Lori). He wants to ask her to be his date for the dance, but confides to his friends that he's worried she might reject him, and thus he doesn't want to ask her unless he's certain that she likes him back. The gang each takes part in helping Clyde.
Rusty drenches Clyde with beef jerky-scented cologne, saying that his older cousin told him that if a girl comments on a guy's cologne, she likes him. Emma compliments Clyde on his scent, but Clyde believes that maybe she's just a good smeller. Liam then suggests Clyde save a seat for her in the school auditorium. This works, but Clyde thinks it might've been because the seat next to him was the only empty seat left. Taking a tip from 16 ½ Magazine, Lincoln suggests Clyde ask Emma if he can borrow a pen, and whatever she gives him will determine whether she likes him or not (a fancy pen being the highest indicator and a pencil being the lowest). Emma gives Clyde a light-up and pom-pom pen, but he worries she just gave him this pen because it was the first one she saw. Finally, Stella tries to predict the outcome by reading tea leaves, a skill she learned from her grandmother. The vision shown in the tea shows Clyde dancing with a brown-haired girl while wearing a chef's outfit. Taking this to mean that Emma likes him, Clyde is now ready to ask her to the dance, and he does so with a grand gesture inspired by a scene from one of his favorite movies, Il Ballo Finale. Unfortunately, when he does ask Emma, she tells him that she only wants to be friends.
Heartbroken at being friendzoned, Clyde resigns from the dance committee and tells his dads he never wants to come back to school. That evening, Clyde is sulking in his room, trying to ignore his friends' texts asking him to come have fun with them at the dance. He then gets a call from Cheryl, saying that the bakery accidentally sent them a cake meant for a baby shower and they need his help to fix it. Donning his chef outfit, Clyde reluctantly arrives at the party and quickly fixes the cake up into a Valentine's-themed one. He then tries to leave, but is recognized by Chloe, another member of the dance committee, who tells him he was pretty brave to have tried asking Emma out in front of everyone. The two bond over their shared love of baking and, after learning she doesn't have a date herself, Clyde asks Chloe if she'd like to dance with him at the party, which she gladly accepts. The episode ends with Clyde and Chloe having a fun time dancing together, during which Emma waves at him to let him know everything's okay between them.
