Brent Butcher is a one-off character in the Canadian sitcom, Mr. Meaty, who appears in episode Flinga Flonga. He is a former childhood bully of Josh Redgrove and Parker Dinkleman who returns to his hometown of Scaunchboro and gets a job as a trainee at Burrito Explosion. He is voiced by series co-creator Jason Hopley.

Background[]

Years before the events of the episode, Brent Butcher was a notorious bully who tormented the children of Scaunchboro, including Josh and Parker. His menacing presence left a lasting traumatic impact, particularly on Parker. After moving away, his sudden return sparks a revenge plot by the duo.

Josh and Parker devise a plan for revenge, discovering his love for chocolate cake and fear of opossums. They conspire with his mother to throw him a surprise party. However, when Josh encounters Brent, he finds that the former bully has changed and is remorseful for his past actions, so he tries to call off the revenge, but Parker is still intent on going through with it.

During the party, Josh shows up and reveals Parker's plan; Brent, in response, returns Captain Robotic, a toy he stole from Parker when they were children, and agrees to fall into the trap since he feels he deserves it, but Parker forgives him and the trio finally get along, but their happiness is ruined when Brent's mother, unknowingly, falls into the trap while trying to cut the cake.

Appearance[]

As a child, Brent is larger than Josh and Parker. His puppet has small, beady eyes, a large, pig-like nose, and a sullen expression. He has a dark brown mullet hairstyle and a noticeable mole on his left cheek.

As an young adult, Brent's appearance is much more subdued; His hair is shorter and neater. He wears a light green collared shirt, under a red trainee apron during work. His posture is less confident, and his facial expression is often calm and apologetic, reflecting his changed personality. The mole on his cheek is still visible.

Personality[]

As a child, Brent was a cruel, manipulative, and classic bully. He enjoyed seeing others suffer and used his size to intimidate and take what he wanted. He possessed a distinctive, high-pitched, mocking laugh and was a skilled liar, easily fooling his mother to avoid consequences.

As an adult, Brent has undergone a complete personality transformation. He is kind, soft-spoken, and deeply regretful of his past behavior. His apology to Josh and Parker is heartfelt, admitting he acted out because he had trouble making friends, and demonstrating that he has matured and understands the harm he caused.

Interactions[]

  • Parker Dinkleman: Brent was Parker's main childhood bully. His theft of Parker's Captain Robot's toy was the direct cause of Parker's "Flinga Flonga" rage fits. Parker's grudge against Brent lasts for a decade, culminating in his elaborate and destructive revenge plot. Brent's sincere apology and the return of the toy finally bring closure.
  • Josh Redgrove: Brent also bullied Josh, though Josh seems to have been less psychologically affected. When Brent apologizes, Josh is the first to see that he has changed and tries to stop the plan, proving that he is willing to forgive him.
  • Guadalupe: Brent works as a trainee under Mr. Guadalupe. His boss seems to be fond of him, complimenting him on his work ethic, and promising to teach him more skills. Brent is shown to be a respectful employee.
  • Mrs. Butcher: She is Brent's mother. As a child, Brent was able to manipulate her into thinking Josh and Parker were excluding him. She appears to be a caring mother, organizing his surprise party and expressing pride that he has grown into a "fine young man".

Trivia[]

  • Brent's distinctive, high-pitched wheezing laugh as a child is a key characteristic that haunts Parker into his teenage years.
  • Through hacking his mother's personal files, Parker discovers several of Brent's secrets.
    • He has a phobia of opossums.
    • He loves chocolate cake.
    • his birthday is on a Friday
  • Given that he is established as a new employee in the same mall as Mr. Meaty and has reconciled with the main characters, it is highly likely that Brent was intended to become a recurring character, if the series continued for more episodes.
