Danny Phantom: A Glitch in Time is a graphic novel based on Danny Phantom, written by Gabriela Epstein and published by Abrams Books. It was published on July 18, 2023.

On November 9th, a sequel novel was confirmed for released in 2025. Titled Danny Phantom: Fair Game, it will be released on November 4, 2025.

Summary

This all-new middle school graphic novel based on Nickelodeon's animated series Danny Phantom takes readers on a time-traveling adventure that takes place directly after the series finale with the original ghost gang: Danny Fenton and his best friends Sam Manson and Tucker Foley! When the gang starts experiences [sic] time travel glitches, Danny's archnemesis Vlad Masters arrives on his doorstep with terrifying news: Dark Danny has escaped his prison!

Danny must then get his friends together and partner with Vlad to jump through time and space and unlock secrets of the Ghost Zone! But can they make it back to Amity Park before Dark Danny destroy the ghost gang's entire world?

Plot

The story starts as Danny Phantom getting chased by a polar bear. However, when he tries to protect himself, his shield powers were "disrupted". He starts to tell the readers his origins on how he got his powers and how managed to protect the city from danger with his friends. Turns out, he got distracted and was in fact in Amity Park. Out of nowhere, Box Ghost gave a surprise attack to him and he was send to the ground. Luckily, there was another ghost hunters nearby, and captured the Box Ghost.

In celebration, the trio went out to celebrate the victory, when all the sudden, the time seems to glitch again. This time, they were traveled to the renaissance period. The dragon appeared and crashed the ball with anger, due to her not getting invited. Danny tried to stop her, but his flying powers seems to "malfunction" as well, and he falls to the ground.

Before they realize what is going on, they were time-traveled to the cutting ribbon ceremony in Amity Park. The mayor welcomes him to the cheering crowd. He gave Danny the honor to cut the ribbon, which he tried by using his ghost ray, but fails. Eventually, the Mayor helped cut the ribbon for him and the crowd cheered louder.

After the event, the trio went back to the Fenton Workshop, still unsure on what's going on. Before they knew it, they seemed to glitch again, and teleported near a T-rex. They manage to narrowly escape the angry dinosaur and traveled back to the present. They went back to the lab for answers, most possibly from Clockwork. The alarms in the base activated and the 3 prepared for the worse.

The portal to the ghost zone opened, and to their surprise, the intruder was Vlad Plasmius. Vlad tried to talk to Daniel, which was in fact Danny, but the 3 didn't budge to restrain him to the ground. The team then asked Vlad Plasmius to answers, which he agreed to tell the truth. In a flashback not long ago, he tried to his his past mistakes. In order to do that, he needed to to to Clockwork. However, he didn't listen to him and began to fight for a while... until the Fenton Thermos holding Dark Danny broke apart...

Dark Danny felt relieved after being freed. Clockwork and Vlad tried to stop Dark Dany from breaking the timeline, but he was too strong to defeat. Dark Danny broke his staff, and it gave a burst of energy, knocking the 2 out. Vlad flead from the fight, leaving Clockwork to fight against him. He defeats Clockwork with ease, and sucks the powers out of him. He becomes more powerful and unstoppable with his new powers.

Of course, the gang and Jazz were flabbergasted by the new. To prove his point, Tucker checked the echo-energy levels given from the Ghost Zone. The monitor had burst of ghost activity, it would be powerful enough to tear apart the Ghost Zone, and even the human world if it remains unsolved. Danny begins to question himself on why his powers have been malfunctioning after the Diasteroid event. Jazz and his friends comforted him and make sure that there will be a solution.

Luckily, Vlad has a solution; he has been studying the source of the echo-energy that might be related to the Ghost Zone. The team reluctantly agrees and grabs the infi-map. Then, they heard a sires coming from the monitors, and almost forgoten the fate of Amity Park while finishing the mission. Jazz surprises the 4 by also having a suit to catch ghost for them in the park. Danny forcefully buckled the Specter Delfecter on Vlad to prevent "his schemes". Then, the 4 hopped on to the ship and began their journey.

Meanwhile, Jazz announced the citizens at the park to brace themselves. Suddenly, there was an alarm going off at the base, signaling an intruder. Turns out, the person was Valerie Gray, offering to help her too.

In the Ghost Zone, Danny and his team is looking for the echo-energy source. They arrived in Wisconsin and stopping at a football field. Vlad says that it is only activated once he says "Packers rule". Danny listened to him and the field began to split into 2 by command. The 4 enter the crack and discovers a secret lab. Danny becomes concerned about the items in the lab, then was stopped by Vlad himself.

After searching through a normal looking treasure chest, he managed to find notes that he made related to the echo-energy and the Infi-map. Tucker mocks him by stating that what did he used to translate the charcoal rubbing on the paper, and wondering why his plan never works. The phone begins to translate the text, Sam commented on it sounding promising. Vlad wonders how Danny got his "hideous costume", and the 4 time-travel to the badlands.

The team arrived in a canyon with cowboy like outfits. Out of nowhere, a bandit snatched the Infi-map map out of Danny's hands. They started a plan and started chasing the bandits. After a wild goose chase, they managed to defeat the bandits and get the map back. Then, they asked the map to take them to the Pariah Dark's Keep, and they were taken there.

Back at Amity park, Jazz, Valerie and their parents are still working to protect the base. The Fenton Works Ghost Shield activates and the har family celebrates with the other ghost hunters. Jazz reminds Valerie to close the other portals in the park, and she transforms to her battle suit. She zooms towards Mayor Manor and bashed through the wall. The ghost portal send her back, but she managed to close the portal. To her surprise, there was still the ghost energy surrounding her, blasting her far out. Dark Danny appears in front of her, flabbergasting Valerie.

In the meantime, the 4 arrives in Pariah Dark's Keep. They were then stopped by Fright Night, and he begins to attack them. Vald tries to stop the fight, but was stunned by the Splecter Deflecter. Danny begged Tucker to release the device, which he reluctantly agreed, and Vlad was able to be in his ghost form. Unfortunately, he was quickly thrown to the Sarcophagus of Forever sleep, and waking him up would have enormous consequences. Luckily, they both managed to catch it; Danny let go of the tomb to the knight and they both leave.

They arrive at another room. This time, the room only contained runes on the walls. Tucker asked Danny to try and warm up his ghost powers, but that also failed. As usual, Vlad tried to give another solution, which was to blast him with his ghost powers. The 3 began arguing back and forth until Sam saw a glowing window on the wall. They soon came into realization, and was teleported unexpectedly.

The team arrives in a Mayan temple, while wearing Mayan clothing. Tucker accidentally knocks over a historical artifact, which was a bouncy ball. Sam spots the Hero Twins. The twins both tossed a ball to Vlad. Vlad tries to fight them, but was quickly thrown down. Danny decided to solve this by dodgeball style. One of them caught the ball, but decided not to throw it back. Turns out, they just wanted to play with them. After a fun game of ball, they 4 were teleported to the same empty room with runes before.

They start to connect all the papers that reveals a map. The 4 pressed on the giant buttons on the floor and unlocks a hidden staircase. Then, they proceed to go down.

In the meantime, Amity Park is still getting demolished by Dark Danny. The Fenton family tries to stop him with the Fenton Family Ghost Assaut Vehicle, but that gets destroyed quickly. Valerie gave a surprise attack to Dark Danny, by trapping him in the Fenton Thermos. However, she was also knocked over.

Danny and his team arrives at the echo-energy source. They find more runes and vegetation in the unusual place. Tucker used his device to translate the runes. It showed that the world used to be one, until it was spilt into 2. This represents the real world and the ghost world. Without any of them, it would not be complete. The time is ticking, or it will get worse overtime.

After the translation, Vlad realized that this isn't what he expected. Danny explains that since the world is already safe, his purpose as a hero fades away. That's why his powers slowly gets disrupted. He decides to be redeem himself, and turns himself into his ghost form. He proceeds to make fireworks in the sky, as his friends cheered on him. Tucker receive a call from Valerie, saying that Amity Park is too late to be saved now. The 4 noticed the doors are glitching even more, and they travel back to the park.

Dark Danny contines to search for Danny. He was stopped by the ghost hunters from before, and blast him with echo-ray. He blocked their attacks and gave a ghostly wail. They were suddenly wearing roman, like clothing, and the area became a temple. He glitches even more. The 3 spotted Danny at the sky. Danny gave a heroic entrance by smashing the ground. Dark Danny welcomes him to fight him, but Danny refused.

Before he could do anything, Dark Danny attacked him with Clockwork's powers and freezes him in time. Suddenly, Vlad Plasmius punched him as he was about to attack. He attacks him back in revenge. Meanwhile, Sam and Tucker saved Danny by giving him a time medallions to cancel out the powers. Dark Danny contines to ambush Vlad and tossed him to the Fenton's vehicle, shocking Jack and Maddie. Jack pressed a button to activate the blaster, but that too also failed. Danny, fortunately managed to freeze and stop him in ice.

He attacks him with a ghostly wail, and crashed Dark Danny to a building. Jazz and Valerie shoots the building's foundation, and the building collapsed on him. The entire crew watched the scene. Suddenly, Dark Danny's hands appeared to pop out of the rumble, then his body became more powerful. He then proceeds to give an energy blast, which the team was shielded by Danny. The team was luckily saved, but Vlad and Danny was caught by him, and was thrown forcefully.

Dark Danny was about to attack Danny, when he was halted by Vlad. The 2 face against each other with a ghost ray stand off. Vlad almost turns back to human form, but he resists. He was able to blast him and knock him out. Danny and Vlad agreed to take him down together. They successfully separated Clockwork from Dark Danny, and falls to the ground, barely conscious.

Danny's parents tossed him the Fenton Thermos to catch him, but Danny rejects their idea. He decides to let Dark Danny go free, he doesn't want to feel "trapped again". Clockwork said that Dark Danny's body is slowly collapsing. Vlad offered his body to save him, and he accepts the deal. Clockwork takes Vlad to returns to the ghost world. The friends celebrate together. Clockwork tooks the time medallions and rebuilds it to his staff.

Clockwork teleports them to the timeline. Since Danny and his team saved the world, he gave them 2 options. Door 1 will revert everything back to normal, but he will lose his ghost powers. Door 2 will also revert back to normal, but he fame will be gone. Danny choses option 2 and his friends enter the door.

As said, Amity park now doesn't remember Danny as a hero. Meanwhile, Vlad Plasmius is back at his lab. He transfers Dark Danny's soul to a clone of Danny; the clone transforms into a ghost and wakes up. Clockwork appears, and informs that he can't fix the timeline if something goes wrong again.

Danny and his friends were at a park when the Box Ghost appeared out of nowhere. They get into action, and Danny turns himself into a ghost version, ending the graphic novel.
