"Dear journal..."
Doug Funnie's journal is a major element of the series Doug. It is the book of looseleaf paper in which the titular character writes about his experiences and his secrets in every episode. According to the episode "Doug's Christmas Story", the journal was a Christmas present from his dog Porkchop.
Since most Doug episodes focus on him recounting the episode's events (and apparently his fantasy sequences), the journal itself is rarely present within the stories themselves, typically only being seen at the beginning and/or the end of the episode, when we see Doug writing. The journal was made most prominent in the episode "Doug's Runaway Journal", in which, as the title suggests, Doug finds that it has gone missing, and frets that someone may find it and publicly reveal his secrets. Due to its absence, the episode does not begin with Doug writing in his journal or his usual opening narration (although this does not stop some of his usual narration from appearing later in the episode). After putting up "missing" posters (specifying that whoever finds it should not read it) and trying to use other kinds of paper as temporary substitutes, Doug learns that Roger found the journal at the Honker Burger. Fortunately for Doug, Roger is unable to publicly reveal any of his secrets because he couldn't read Doug's handwriting.
When the series was continued by Disney Television Animation, Doug would receive two new journals over the course of its run, both again as gifts from Porkchop; his first new journal was a Christmas gift in the episode "Doug's Secret Christmas", and the second was as a birthday present in the series finale, "Doug's Marriage Madness".
