Eddie Asner (November 15, 1929 - August 29, 2021) was an American actor, voice artist, singer, producer and former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He was primarily known for his role as Lou Grant during the 1970s and early 1980s, on both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off series Lou Grant. Other notable roles of him included Santa Claus in the 2003 comedy Elf and the voice of Carl Fredricksen in Pixar's animated film Up.
For Nickelodeon, Asner provided the voices of the Risk Keeper in The Angry Beavers, Frank Hunter in The Wild Thornberrys, and the Angry Old Timer in SpongeBob SquarePants.
On August 29, 2021, Asner died of natural causes at age 91.
