Edward Roger Carney is a supporting character and also the main antagonist of the Nickelodeon puppet series, Mr. Meaty. He is the founder and CEO of the Mr. Meaty restaurant chain. He is voiced by Marty Stelnick.

Background[]

Edward R. Carney is the founder of the Mr. Meaty fast-food empire, having started the business in 1904 at the World's Fair in St. Louis with nothing more than a bathtub full of pork butt. At some point, his body was cryogenically frozen and stored in the freezer of the Scaunchboro Mall's Mr. Meaty location. He is discovered and thawed out by the series' protagonists, Josh Redgrove and Parker Dinkleman, after which he resumes control of his company.

Carney is depicted as a tyrannical and cruel leader who enjoys tormenting his employees. He is also shown to be incredibly greedy and power-hungry, with a desire to have every person in the world eat at Mr. Meaty five times a day.

In the episode Original Sin, it is revealed that Carney holds a contract signed by the great-great-great grandfather of the restaurant's manager, Wink, which essentially makes Wink and his descendants indentured servants to Carney. He uses this contract to force Wink to do his bidding, even placing a microchip on the back of his head to shock him for disobedience.

His more antagonistic appearance was is in the special Big Greasy Musical, where he is melted away when Josh and his girl Brittany sing a song to defeat him.

Appearance[]

Mr. Carney is depicted as an elderly, decaying man with blue-tinged, rotting skin. He is often seen in a high-tech wheelchair, which he uses to get around and to administer electric shocks, though he is not actually handicapped. He is usually seen wearing a cowboy outfit, but before returning to activity, he wore a suit with a top hat.

Personality[]

Carney is an ill-tempered, selfish, mean, and cold-hearted individual who takes pleasure in the suffering of others. He is manipulative and uses threats and intimidation to control his employees.

Despite being the series' main antagonist, he is sometimes portrayed as a supporting or minor villain.

He is also shown to be a charismatic and engaging public speaker.

Interactions[]

  • Josh Redgrove and Parker Dinkleman: Josh and Parker are the primary targets of Carney's cruelty and abuse.[1] They are the ones who thaw him from his cryogenic state, and he frequently threatens and torments them.
  • Mr. Wink: Mr. Wink is Carney's right-hand man and the manager of the Mr. Meaty restaurant. Carney holds a generational contract over Mr. Wink, forcing him into servitude. He controls Mr. Wink through a shock-inducing microchip. In Original Sin, Carney fires Mr. Wink, only to force him to return to his service.
