Piper O'Possum was the mascot for Nick Jr., succeeding Face, debuting on October 11, 2004 and officially retiring on September 7, 2007. Piper introduced the shows and told viewers what show was coming up next before and during commercial breaks.

Description[]

Piper is a little yellow cub with an optimistic attitude who can usually be found saying "I love to play!" and often introduces viewers to new friends. In the India dub, Piper is voiced by Africa voice-over actress Alex Kelly on Nick Jr. and Nick Jr 2.

Looks[]

Piper O'Possum is mostly yellow with an orange nose, ears, hands, feet, eyelids and tail ending with a yellow pompom tip and has a pouch on her tummy. Piper is stop-motion using "photo-puppetry," similar to the cast of Wonder Pets! and other Little Airplane characters.

Appearances[]

Piper appeared in over one hundred Nick Jr. commercials from October 11, 2004 to September 7, 2007, most of which were "Up Next" bumpers informing viewers of the upcoming program. The character was replaced with two mascots, Moose A. Moose and Zee when Nick Jr. debuted as a TV Channel in 2009, in the UK, Piper debuted on Nick Jr. on 5th September 2005, and on Nick Jr. 2 during launch on 24th April, 2006, and was voiced by Alex Kelly. Unlike in the US, Piper would last for a few more years until being was removed from both channels during a rebrand in 2010.

Trivia[]

  • The name Piper O'Possum is a reference to Lion.
  • Piper is created by Little Airplane (the studio and creators behind Oobi and Wonder Pets).
  • Piper interacted with the Wonder Pets in a few bumpers: in one of them, they helped Piper get uncaught; in other bumpers, they babysit some live action babies and we see Piper in the Wonder Pets' flyboat!
  • Most of the animators on these came from Little Bill and Blue's Clues, and they were picked up from the failed Spike TV show, This Just In. Most of them later went on to work on Wonder Pets and Little Einsteins.
  • Piper's American voice actress, Ali Brustofski is a singer on YouTube with a million subscribers and a ton of views.
  • There are 2 different eras of Piper intersitials, the ones from October 2004-August 2005 (with the intro promos having the logo at the end with 2 boings (sometimes three and those are the rare ones) and the ones from September 2005-September 2007 that have Piper's voice a higher pitch.
