- Culturally, the Fire Nation takes much of its inspiration from Japan and China, as well as Southeast Asia (notably Thailand and Burma); the Sun warriors-who predated the Fire Nation-borrow cultural elements from ancient Latin American cultures-such as the Mayans and Aztecs-with smatterings of Southeast Asia, India and Middle Eastern cultures. In the comics, the prehistoric ancestors of the Fire Nation resemble the Ainu, the Indigenous people of Japan.
- In terms of its geography, the Fire Nation is based on Iceland, Japan and Hawaii.
- The Fire Nation's cuisine is rooted in Sichuan cuisine, with its red coloring, spiciness and large quantities of meat.
