George Jacob James is an American actor and songwriter, best known for playing Jake on Pinwheel.
Early Life[]
Growing up, George James had a passion for music, nature, musical theater, theater, and horses. He started playing the trumpet, taking part in plays, and reciting poetry when he was seven. He attended Hofstra University as a theater student.[1]
Career[]
James first heard about Pinwheel through his friend, music producer John Simon, who heard that Warner Communications was looking to develop a children's show and wanted someone who could act, write songs, and produce the songs and music. He auditioned and got a callback two days later. He would go on to play Jake and compose music for the show until production ended in 1984.[1]
In addition to Pinwheel, James composed the theme music for By the Way[2] and Hocus Focus,[3] produced records, wrote for Sesame Street, performed in Twyla Tharp's stage production of Hair, and produced and directed audio books.[1]
