"Hip Hop Hoedown" is the 18th episode of The Fresh Beat Band.

Summary[]

The episode starts off in Kiki's room, where she seems to be looking for something and is making a mess while doing so. Suddenly, Twist, Shout, and Marina come into Kiki's room and remind Kiki that they have to go to a country hoedown soon. Kiki tells them that she's almost ready but is looking for her cowgirl boots. Twist offered to help Kiki find her cowgirl boots. And since there was a big mountain of clothing in Kiki's room, Twist dove into that pile in order to find them. Twist eventually comes out of the pile of clothes somehow, with a fishing rod to reel out Kiki's boots. Twist does reel out some boots from the pile, but they were snow boots, not cowgirl boots. Kiki then looks in the clothes pile herself, and Shout finds Kiki's cowgirl boots. And it turns out, Kiki was wearing them the whole time.

Since Shout found Kiki's cowgirl boots, she was finally ready to go. However, her room was still a mess, so she had some cleaning up to do. So Twist, Shout, and Marina help Kiki clean her room, and as they are doing so, they all sing a shortened version of the song "Get Up And Go Go." And while they are cleaning, Twist tries to cheat his way out of cleaning, including throwing all of Kiki's clothes in her closet, hiding the clothes under Kiki's bed covers, and hiding Kiki's clothes in his sweater. Kiki, Shout, and Marina luckily caught Twist in his devious ways and forced him to clean everything properly.

After they finished cleaning, the Fresh Beats were discussing what song they should perform at the hoedown. Twist, Shout, and Marina have no idea of what they should perform, but Kiki plays her fiddle and says that they should play a country music song. Oddly enough, Twist, Shout, and Marina are still puzzled about what song they should play. Kiki suggests that they maybe didn't hear her when she said that they should play a country music song, so she plays her fiddle again and says that they should play country music. Still, Twist, Shout, and Marina don't hear Kiki when she says "country music." So Kiki plays her fiddle one more time and says "country music," and despite the fact that Kiki has already said it, Twist, Shout, and Marina finally get the idea to play a country music song.

Before they went off to the hoedown, Kiki told Twist, Shout, and Marina that they needed instruments to play. Kiki was already good to go since she had her fiddle. To get more instruments, the Fresh Beats all went to The Good Note Music store to see if Reed had any country-style instruments for Twist, Shout, and Marina to play. At The Good Note Music Store, Reed is seen playing a banjo. Once Reed sees the Fresh Beats there, he stops playing his banjo, and then Twist tells him about the hoedown about to occur. Shout was about to tell Reed about the fact that they needed instruments for the hoedown, but before he could finish making his request, Reed interrupted him and thought that they needed cowboy and cowgirl hats. As cool as cowboy and cowgirl hats would've been, Marina finishes Shout's request and tells Reed that they needed instruments to play at the hoedown.

Judging by the instruments he had in his store, Reed suggested that an accordion would be good for Shout to play. Shout agreed with Reed because the accordion had keys like his keyboard. Reed said that Marina could, of course, play the drums. Twist decided that he should play the mixtables, like he always does. Since everyone had an instrument to play, they all started to play their instruments at once to see if they blended well together. Foreseeably, when Twist was playing the mixtables along with them, they sounded very scratchy. Twist then says that he should "scratch less," so he scratched the mixtables a little bit, but Reed suggests that Twist should play something else. Especially because Reed has a whole store of instruments.

Twist tried to play the xylophone, but when he played it, the xylophone keys popped off. Kiki then suggested that Twist could play the concertina, the same one Shout played in the "Band Together" episode. Unfortunately, the concertina squeezed up in the air, and it looked like it didn't want to be played. Trying to find an instrument for the hoedown started to make Twist go bananas. So the Fresh Beats sang the song "Bananas" to make Twist feel better.

After the Fresh Beats finished going bananas, Twist was ready to play some country music again. He was so ready that he wanted to play some country music mixtables. No one, of course, has ever heard of country music mixtables because Twist just made it up. And he had the idea of making his own mixtables that were part-mixtables and part-brucking bronco horse. And then when he played them, they would buck like a bronco horse and play some real country music. Marina thinks that Twist thought of a cool idea, but she gives a more simple solution by just having Twist pick an instrument from Reed's store.

So Twist goes over to Reed's music store to find a new instrument while Kiki, Shout, and Marina were playing country music. Melody hears them playing country music and grooves along with them. Shout reveals to Melody that they were practicing for the hoedown later, and Melody reveals that she loves country music. So Kiki, Shout, and Marina continue to play the song, and meanwhile, Twist grabs a trombone from Reed's music store. Twist tries to play the trombone with the others, thinking it would match with the country music feel. But eventually, Twist makes the slide of the trombone fly off. Twist realized that the trombone didn't sound so good with the country music, so he went to get a new instrument and to give Reed the broken trombone for him to fix.

As Twist is giving Reed the broken trombone, Twist grabs some bagpipes for him to play for the song. The problem is, bagpipes are a Scottish instrument, not a country music instrument. Twist eventually runs out of breath playing the bagpipes, and Kiki tells him that bagpipes don't have a country music sound. Twist then gives Reed back his bagpipes and sees a gong that he could play for the song. Because Twist was about to play the gong, Reed, understandably, put some earmuffs on. Twist banged the gong, and, of course, he started to move and shake around crazily. Twist eventually moves on over to Reed's music store, where Reed stops Twist from moving around. At first, Twist tells Reed how the gong didn't work out, and at first, Reed shouts at Twist, saying that there aren't a lot of gongs heard in country music. Twist tells Reed that he still had his earmuffs on, and Reed takes them off and tells Twist in a normal speaking tone.

It seemed that people were about to head on over to the hoedown, so the Fresh Beats, along with Melody and Reed, had to get going soon. So they all changed into cowboy and cowgirl outfits and arrived at the hoedown in the park. While at the hoedown, Kiki, Shout, and Marina had to play their instruments without Twist, since he didn't have an instrument to play. So Kiki, Shout, and Marina played some country music while Twist, along with everybody else at the hoedown, square danced. While square dancing, Twist starts to bump into the others, making them dizzy, and eventually, they all fall down.

Everyone gets up and Reed says that the square dance is missing something: a square dance caller. Reed explains that a square dance caller uses words to tell the square dancers what to do when they dance. And the caller does it all while rhyming. Twist could relate to square dance callers since they do everything in rhyme, and he also rhymes all the time. Kiki gave Twist the microphone in order for him to try to be the square dance caller. Twist started to give some directions to the square dancers, and he did a good job of doing so. Shout tells him that it was some mighty fine square dance-calling. Twist says that it was easy because square dance-calling is a lot like rapping. Then Twist thought of an idea, and that's when he decided to be the square dance caller for the hoedown. So for the hoedown, the Fresh Beats sang the song "Hip Hop Hoedown," and throughout the song, Twist gave lots of rhymes to the square dancers, telling them how to dance.

The hoedown ended, and everyone enjoyed Twist's square dance-calling. Twist says that he couldn't have done it without his friends, and the Fresh Beats end the day off by singing "Great Day."
