"Hocus Pocus" is the 10th episode of The Fresh Beat Band.

Summary[]

Twist is outside, telling the viewer about the upcoming talent show at Music School, where participants will perform a variety of spectacular acts, like tuba playing and roller skating while playing trombone. Twist says that he wants to juggle at the talent contest, but he loses control of the juggling balls, which fall into Reed's hands. Since Twist is with Reed, he informs him about the upcoming talent show and asks if he has any ideas for him to perform. Reed came up with the best, coolest thing Twist could do at the talent show. Reed then took a scarf and used it to make all of the instruments on the table vanish, and a magic kit appeared.

Twist could do all sorts of magic tricks from the magic kit for the talent show. Reed explains that in order for Twist's magic tricks to function properly, he must say the magic words in the correct way. The words being: "koogle flugel, bugle strudel, cha-cha-choogle." Twist asked Reed to repeat the words, but he couldn't hear Reed because a trombone player was passing by. Twist then asked Reed to repeat the sentence again, and while someone else on a bike passed by, Twist said that he understood the phrase.

Twist goes to the apartment and calls the other Fresh Beats, showing them the magic kit and suggesting that they perform magic acts for the Music School talent show. The other Fresh Beats eventually come around to the idea, but they need to get ready for Music School first, so they sing "School Days" while getting ready.

After they finish singing the song, Shout asks that Twist demonstrate one of his magic tricks, which he tries by making pretty flowers appear in a vase. As Marina was doing the magic trick, Twist asked Marina for a drumroll. And because he said the magic words incorrectly, instead of flowers, a swarm of ping-pong balls sprang from the vase and wreaked havoc throughout the lobby! Ping-pong balls popped out of his pockets as well. Shout brought the ping-pong ball vase into his room, but it only caused the ping-pong balls to multiply.

After failing to make flowers appear, Twist decided to try the magician's classic, attempting to make a rabbit appear from his hat. Nothing seemed to come out of the hat at first, but then another swarm of ping-pong balls flew out. The Fresh Beats sing "No Problem We Can't Solve" while cleaning up their apartment due to the ping-pong balls making a mess. It was also shown that ping-pong balls were coming from Kiki's room. They use brooms, a net, and even some ping-pong paddles to try to get rid of them. They eventually cleaned up all of the ping-pong balls and reinserted them into the magic hat.

Twist is confused after cleaning up as to what he's doing wrong and why his magic tricks aren't working. When Kiki suggests that the magic words he's saying aren't the proper ones, Shout advises that Twist try a different set of magic words. Twist follows Shout's advice and attempts to make an extra ping-pong ball vanish. Twist did the magic trick, but instead of the ball, the instruments of Kiki, Shout, and Marina vanished. Twist attempted to make their instruments appear through magic, and while instruments did appear, they were not their instruments. Shout's instrument was a keytar, Kiki's was an upright bass, and Marina's was another drumset.

Twist tried yet again to make their instruments reappear, but instead of their instruments reappearing, all of their voices were switched up. Twist had the voice of Kiki, Kiki had the voice of Shout, Shout had the voice of Marina, and Marina had the voice of Twist. Twist liked the idea of their voices being mixed up, but the others were certain that it wasn't a good idea at all. As a result, Twist tries a magic trick to recover their voices and instruments, but instead transports them outside of Music School. Twist tries to fix the situation with their voices and instruments once more, but he ends up taking them inside of Music School. They all have their voices back, but not their instruments.

Ms. Piccolo questions how the Fresh Beats arrived at Music School so quickly, and Shout jokes that they "popped in." The Fresh Beats are nervous because it's almost time for them to perform at the talent show, but they still don't know what to do about their instruments. Then Twist had an idea of going to a claw machine game and playing until they could get instruments that were identical to their originals in order to perform in the talent show. While Marina agreed that it was a cool idea, she suggested that they just play their new instruments during the talent show because they are nearly identical to their original instruments. Twist initially declares that he will not do any more magic, but Marina explains that they truly want him to perform magic and that he should keep trying to learn the correct magic words.

Twist performs a variety of tricks, such as swapping the person playing each instrument, making things appear, and so on, as the Fresh Beats perform the song "Magic." During the talent show, there were also some other acts, such as people dancing, doing ballet, roller skating while playing the trumpet, and more. Everyone loved the Fresh Beats' performance after they finished, and Ms. Piccolo felt it was magically musical. She then walked out of the room, singing a section of their song. Twist was still wondering what the correct magic words were because Kiki, Shout, and Marina needed their instruments back. The correct magic words, Twist realized, were "koogle flugel, bugle strudel, cha-cha-choogle," as a man playing the bugle reminded him. Kiki, Shout, and Marina received their instruments back after Twist recited this phrase, and he returned Reed's magic kit.
