Jellyfish are gelatinous, free-swimming creatures in SpongeBob SquarePants, common throughout all oceans of the world. These Bikini Bottomites of Jellyfish Fields can have between one and eight spots and appear in hives much like bees and can sting like them, too. However, unlike bees, they have electric tentacles to zap intruders (similar to electric eels) instead of unelectric stingers to sting intruders. They make jelly, in a similarity to bees making honey. Jellyfish have been a big role in making jelly. The sport of catching jellyfish with hand nets is referred to as "jellyfishing" and is a popular activity for many enthusiasts such as Spongebob and Patrick.
Description[]
They are similar to bees. For example, they can have between one and eight spots and appear in hives much like bees. They make jelly, in a much similar manner to how bees make honey. However, their jelly is mostly stored within their bodies with some excess jelly left in their hive. Jelly can be extracted commonly by milking or even making them sneeze. Jellyfish can also squirt their jelly at will, usually to annoy or insult their target. Excessive loss of jelly causes them to lose their form; thus only a small quantity of jelly is taken at a time. A quart-sized jar of jelly seems to be the safest amount of jelly taken from a single jellyfish without causing them harm. Jellyfish jelly's flavor is stated to be "strawberry" by Squidward in "Jellyfish Jam," and its color reflects the color of the jellyfish that produces it (for example, a blue jellyfish in "Jellyfish Hunter" that Spongebob referred to as "No Name" and eventually named "Friend" produces blue jelly). The jelly is also extremely delicious, so much so that Mr. Krabs tries to make and sell a "Jelly Patty" in the episode "Jellyfish Hunter." Their jelly can also be milked from the in a similar manner to cows, as seen in "Jellyfish Jam" and "Jellyfish Hunter" ("FarmBob" even shows an actual cow-like jellyfish named "Ol' Bessy"). They can also sting like bees. However, unlike bees, they use electric tentacles to shock intruders instead of non-electric stingers to sting intruders.
