Your friend Armen... HE'S DEAD!
Mako is the main antagonist in the film Under The Boardwalk. He is Ramona's ex-fiancé and acts as Armen's arch-nemesis and Bobby's arch-rival. His self-centered attitude and manipulative nature drive much of the conflict in the film.
Mako's arrogance and deceit are central to the film, as he vows revenge after Bobby accidentally snaps off his right arm during a confrontation. However, by the end of the movie, after his lies are exposed by his mother Camilla, Mako is humiliated and forced to apologize for his actions. As a peace offering, he gives Bobby a new shell, contributing to the eventual reconciliation between the land and sea crabs.

Personality[]
Mako consistently displays an inflated sense of self-importance and an excessive admiration for his own appearance and abilities. He believes he is superior to others, particularly the land crabs, and expects to get his way. He is not above lying and fabricating stories to achieve his goals, as seen when he falsely claims Armen tried to steal Ramona from him. He holds grudges and seeks revenge. When Bobby accidentally snaps off his arm, Mako immediately vows revenge and attempts to traumatize the land crabs by claiming Armen is dead.
Despite his outward arrogance, Mako's desperate need for control and validation, particularly regarding Ramona, hints at underlying insecurities. His final humiliation reveals a fragile ego that shatters when exposed. Mako frequently uses his social standing and physical presence (often with his goons, Nigel and Chauncey) to harass and intimidate others, especially those he perceives as weaker or a threat, like Armen. His extreme reaction to Ramona being with Armen, even after their engagement ended, indicates a strong possessive streak and deep-seated jealousy. He views Ramona as his property, not an individual with her own choices. Mako craves being the center of attention and validation, especially from Ramona and his peers. His grand gestures and attempts to exert dominance are often driven by this need.
While he acts tough and aggressive, Mako becomes "stuttering and humiliated" when his lies are exposed by Camilla, revealing a lack of true courage and a fear of public shame. Despite being an adult, Mako often acts with the emotional maturity of a spoiled child, throwing tantrums and making impulsive decisions (like declaring war) when he doesn't get his way.
