Moby is a character from the Nick Jr. series PAW Patrol. He is a mer-pup who yearns for life on four paws.

Personality

Moby is a grumpy mer-pup who yearns for a life on four paws so he can be a normal pup and away from the mer-pups. All of their singing and celebrations are annoying to him and they never obey when he tries to tell them what to do, so he is often on his own, griping to McSquidly. However, he still likes Puplantis and considers it to be his home (as seen in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle"). He also did not want to wreck the place as he stated in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save the Whale Patroller".

He also dislikes participating in mer-pup activities such as dancing and will usually sulk when near it. Before he could speak, he would either ignore or scold the mer-pups with an angry yip if they tried to force him into their activities. He does not tend to pay attention when in a dangerous situation.

He also is a technological genius, able to create all sorts of things such as his headphones, Pup Pack and vehicle (as seen in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle") and even traps to cheat his way to victory (as seen in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Mer-Race").

Appearance

Moby has brown fur, fluffy ears, and a white muzzle, chest, and paws. He has a dark blue streak in the shape of a dolphin in the brown fluff of fur on his head, a black nose and eyebrows, and blue eyes. His tail is blue-green with blue streaks and fins with lighter blue at the tips as well as a green streak in the middle. He wears a shell necklace.

His land-pup form has the same color scheme as his mer-pup form, only instead of a fish tail, he has a fluffy brown tail and back legs with white back paws.

When dressed in his gear, he wears a blue and silver suit with green highlights and a blue three-tentacled squid symbol in the center. If he is underwater in his land-pup form, he wears a helmet with the same color scheme.

Pup-Tag

Moby has his own personalized, pentagonal pup tag that is green with a darker green triangular pattern and blue three-tentacled squid symbol on the inside with a silver border on the outside.

Equipment and Vehicle

Pup-Pack

Moby's pup pack contains two grabber claws that extend out, similar to a squid's tentacles.

Vehicle

Moby has a squid-themed vehicle called the "Moby Mobile", which he created out of junk from Junk Island. It is blue with green highlights, has tentacles on the back, which smoke can pour out of, and headlights on top so he can see in dark areas and spot things underwater.

Skills and Abilities

Moby is able to invent anything, from his shell-phones to his vehicle. Like Coral, he has the ability to turn into a land-pup after being paw-bumped.

He also has the ability to speak on land, unlike as a mer-pup, due to him speaking their language. However, he retains the ability to speak even after being reverted back to mer-pup form (as seen in "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle").

• His name is based on the book called Moby-Dick by Herman Melville and the titular whale of said book.
• Portuguese Water Dogs (Moby's dog breed) are highly intelligent and independent, which may have inspired his character traits of inventing and wanting to be away from the Mer-pups.
• Moby's personality is similar to the Dr. Seuss character, The Grinch.
  • Both hate celebrations (festives, Christmas).
  • Both live in solitude.
  • Both are ingenious to make their lives easier.
  • Both have animal sidekicks (dog, squid).
    • Unlike Moby, the Grinch reformed.

Moby does not like when the Mer-pups sing and celebrate as it makes him unhappy.

• He is the second Mer-pup to speak after Coral.
  • He was only able to speak after Zuma paw-bumped him, accidentally turning him into a Land-pup.
    • Before then, he only spoke Mer-Pup. However, he retained his ability to speak after he transformed back into a Mer-Pup, so it is currently unknown if he can still speak Mer-pup.
• He is the second villain to have an actual animal (not a plush)for a sidekick.

• He is the first Mer-pup villain in the series.
• He is the seventh pup to serve as an antagonist.
• He has a robotic claw like Rex and Claw, but it is designed more similarly as Rex's.

• He is the fourth pup antagonist and the sixth animal antagonist overall (not counting the Kitten Catastrophe Crew) to receive toy merchandise. Before him came Sweetie, Claw, Sparks, Hubcap, and Meow-Meow, while Boomer came after him.
• Moby hasn't been seen in his Mer-pup form since "Aqua Pups: Pups Save a Floating Castle".
• Moby has ten main hair tufts upon his head and ten cowries on his necklace. This is likely in reference to his strong association with squids, which have ten tentacles.
