NFL Slimetime is a sports show hosted by Nate Burleson and Dylan Gilmer, airing weekly on Nickelodeon each football season starting in 2021.
Synopsis[]
Hosted by CBS Sports' analyst and former NFL star Nate Burleson and Nick star Young Dylan, with teen sports correspondent Dylan Schefter, NFL Slimetime will be a fun-filled weekly NFL experience for kids and families to enjoy. The series will include: Nick-ified highlights and game footage; youth football spotlights; special guest appearances by Nick stars; interviews with NFL players; and entertaining segments highlighting players and teams on and off the field.
Format[]
NFL Slimetime features highlights and footage recapping the preceding week of NFL games, which are always flavored with digitally-added animations like green slime, white smoke, and blue lightning, or superimposed googly eyes and Krabby Patty hats on the players. Nicktoon characters (and occasionally characters from newly-released Paramount Pictures movies) are also always inserted into the footage. In almost every episode, there is a game called "Catch and Count", in which the viewer has to count how many times a specific character or prop appears throughout the show, with the total number of appearances being shown at the end. (The specific character's appearance is always indicated with a "ding" sound effect.)
Recurring segments include:
- "SlimeLights", showing highlights of the preceding week's games; one particular highlight per week is designated as the "Best Play Ever".
- Lincoln Loud announces the nominees for the Nickelodeon Valuable Player award, and later announces the winner at the end of each episode. In the second season, this was changed to have Nate and Young Dylan announcing each nominee while covering the "SlimeLights", but Lincoln still appeared to mention that he'll announce the winner at the end. From November 2022 onward, Lincoln was replaced by Nate Wright in this slot. As of Season 4, following Big Nate's cancellation, Dora Márquez now occupies this slot.
- "George Knows Football", in which George Johnston IV provides commentary.
- Dylan Schefter interviewing one particular player.
- "Big Time Big Games", highlighting the games to look forward to in the coming week.
- The first season featured "Fantasy Showdown", in which a celebrity challenges Burleson and Dylan to a game of fantasy football (more often than not, Burleson and Dylan's team would lose). This was replaced in the 2022-23 season by "Celebrity Pick Party", in which the celebrity of the week predicts the winners of three of the following week's games, while Burleson and Dylan do the same for three other games.
- "Wednesday Night Lights", news about football programs in schools. In the second season, Frosted Flakes mascot Tony the Tiger appeared as a guest host for this segment.
- The third season adds a trivia question narrated by Nate Wright before the first commercial break, which is answered after the break.
