"Pirate Treasure" is the 1st ever episode of The Backyardigans.

Summary[]

The episode starts with Uniqua first being shown coming out of her estate. She explains that she is a scurvy pirate because she wears a patch over her left eye and because she says "Arr!" She then sings the song "A Pirate Says Arr". Austin comes out of his estate to greet her and he tells her that he's a pirate well (with a hook for a hand) and she agrees to let him aboard her pirate ship Uniqua draws the Jolly Roger (a skull and crossbones flag) in the sandbox. Uniqua has half of the treasure map (Austin wished they had a whole map, but they agree that half a map his better than nothing). The two then run off.

The camera pans to Tyrone and Pablo, who are playing ball on the other side of the backyard. When Tyrone kicks the ball near the sandbox, Pablo runs over to it. He suddenly notices the Jolly Roger that Uniqua had drawn earlier. Tyrone exclaims that pirates have come to the backyard. Pablo finds another half of a treasure map. Pablo then tells him that the two of them should become pirates and follow the map to find the treasure, just for all the money and gold they would have. Tyrone then agrees. The backyard transforms into the ocean, in which Pablo and Tyrone are sailing across in a large pirate ship. Pablo is a peg-legged pirate who is in charge of steering the ship. He is turning the boat's wooden wheel at every turn. Tyrone is a pirate with a wooden ear who serves as the lookout. They ask that who they would do of they ran into other pirates. Pablo answers with "make them walk the plank!" because they are pirates very rough and tough. They start to sing the song "A Pirate Says Arr". The camera pans back to Uniqua and Austin, further into the ocean, on a pirate ship as well. Uniqua is their ship's captain and Austin is on the lookout. Uniqua asks Austin if he sees any islands or pirate ships. Austin frequently answers "no" and "not yet".

Pablo immediately decides to catch Uniqua and Austin. Tyrone asks him what they would do when they catch them. They then start to sing "A Scurvy Pirate" having the same question. Pablo and Tyrone board onto the other pirate ship and surprise them.

Uniqua and Austin are then ordered to walk over to the ship. Austin and Pablo are told to fight with them. Pablo knocks Austin’s portable telescope out of his hand, and Tyrone catches it, winning the match. Uniqua and Austin are then forced to walk the plank after their loss. The both of them obey. As the two are ready to jump off, the ship shakes, and Austin and Uniqua fall off the plank. They all look around and realize that they're on a deserted island. The two scurry off into the more forest-like center of the island.

Pablo and Tyrone have been waiting for a matter of time since making the other pirate pair walk the plank. Pablo realizes that they are floating right near the island shown on their treasure map. They jump off they run after the treasure before Uniqua and Austin find it. They both dash onto the island. Suddenly, the two pairs bump into each other. They are all shocked, and both halves of the map fall from their hands. Tyrone noticed that they could fix the maps together. The maps had a "X" marked, which indicates where the treasure is. They all decide to team up and find it together. They all journey off into the island's center, following their full map. They then sing the song "Treasure". The pirates are now deep into the island's center. Austin thinks that he sees the "X", but Tyrone points out that it's a "T." They think about this, knowing that no one would bury a treasure under a "T." They then advance onto a "U", a "V", then a "W". They all now realize that the sand trail consists of letters from the alphabet. Tyrone then goes through the alphabet but Uniqua then immediately sees the "X". She starts to dig with a shovel. After a lot of digging, she hits something hard. They uncover it and it reveals to be a treasure chest. The pirates open it and find a large diamond. They then bury the precious jewel. But then, they realize that other pirates will just come and find the treasure. After they buried it, Uniqua decides to mark the diamond with a "Y." The other pirates agree and help her cover the chest up. Pablo's stomach growls, and Uniqua offers that they all could come over to her house for a snack.

The island goes back to the backyard as the four friends sing the end song. They then run into Uniqua's House for a snack. Uniqua opens the door and exclaims, "Arr!" before the episode ends.
