Plankton: The Movie is an upcoming computer-animated film based on Nickelodeon's hit TV show SpongeBob SquarePants. It is directed by Dave Needham and produced by Robert Bakish from a screenplay by Doug Lawrence, Kaz and Chris Viscardi. Produced by Nickelodeon Movies, it is currently scheduled for release on Netflix in 2025.[1] Also, it has recently been leaked along with several other movies on Netflix.

Production

On March 4, 2020, Robert Bakish announced that ViacomCBS would produce two feature-length SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off movies for Netflix, representing a "profitable, low-risk rental business with set margins," which he said translates to content ownership for separate distribution down the road, including consumer products and recreation.

"So, we're convinced that both an O&O [owned and operated] and a third-party studio strategy is absolutely right for ViacomCBS," Bakish said. "We believe that maximizing the value of our content asset, that is what you see us executing in 2020 and beyond."

Asked about updates on the films, Vincent Waller replied that they were in the writing phase. He also stated that "Pearl will be in at least one. But nothing is final yet and a lot can change between concept and delivery."[2]

It was later revealed Natalie Franscioni-Karp would be a visual development artist on the movie.

The first picture and name of the movie, Plankton: The Movie, was revealed on June 6, 2024 with an early 2025 scheduled release on Netflix. Production finished in mid-2024.

On August 8, 2024, the entire movie was leaked on 4chan, just like Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie. Early viewers had positive reviews, saying it was far better than the previous movie in the mini-series.
