"Rhyme Time" is the 17th episode of The Fresh Beat Band.
Summary[]
The episode starts off with Twist filling a picnic basket with some food. He tells the viewer that he is working on a picnic basket rap. He starts to sing some of his rap, but his voice seems to be very hoarse, then eventually too high-pitched. He figures that it's because he didn't do his vocal warm-ups for the day. So he does some vocal warm-ups, including melodiously singing "la-la-la-la, la, ah hah" and "me, my, mo, moo." He then does some funny-looking facial stretches and does a breathing exercise by doing a lip trill while hanging down and plopping right up. To fully test to see if those vocal warm-ups worked, he yodeled, and the sound of him yodeling echoed throughout his room. Now that he had successfully finished his vocal warm-ups, he was ready to rap. As Twist was singing his rap, he quickly made a very tall sandwich and almost made it fall. He puts the tall sandwich in the picnic basket and is now ready to go.
Twist exits his room and goes to the lobby where Kiki, Shout, and Marina are. They were ready to go, but before they left, Kiki tossed Twist some apples to put in the picnic basket. Shout then gave Twist an umbrella for him to put inside of the picnic basket as well. Lastly, Marina gives Twist a beach ball for him to put in the basket. And, of course, it didn't fit in. The Fresh Beats all agree that it's going to be a great day for a picnic, so they sing the song "Let's Play" to start the day off.
After the song ended, the Fresh Beats exited their apartment to go to the park for their picnic. As they were walking, they were discussing what they should do at the picnic. Kiki said that they could play games, and Marina said that they should sing at the picnic. Twist agrees with Marina and gives a rap explaining how they should sing a song with a thumping beat to make everyone dance and jump to their feet. Kiki compliments Twist on the rap he just did, and he explains how he loves rhyming words to good beats, like the words "bear" and "chair." Since Twist has such a desire for rapping, Marina says that he should rap at the picnic. Twist and the rest of the Fresh Beats thought it was a sweet idea.
Kiki asked Twist if he had a song to rap for the picnic, but he didn't. Since he didn't have a song to rap to, he improvised a rap, and Kiki, Shout, and Marina gave him a beat to rap to. Twist does get into the rap and makes lots of rhymes while doing so. Unfortunately, he gets stuck rapping and can't think of a rhyme for the word "music." Kiki, Shout, and Marina encouraged him to try again, but once he did, he still couldn't find a rhyme for the word "music." Since Twist can't think of a rhyme for "music," he can't finish his picnic rap, which makes him want to go bananas. So naturally, the Fresh Beats sing the song "Bananas" to make Twist feel better.
After the Fresh Beats went bananas, Twist was still determined to find a rhyme for "music." So he looks all around the street for potential things that rhyme with "music." He tried the words "street," "tree," "coconut," "dolphin," "octopus," "snorkel," "flippers," "tambourine," and "bugle." Of course, none of those words rhyme with "music." He then thought that the word "gong" could rhyme with "music," so he banged the gong and started to move crazily. But "gong" doesn't rhyme with "music" either. Because of Twist's crazily moving after banging the gong, he falls into a garbage can and Kiki, Shout, and Marina help him up. He then thinks that "garbage can" could rhyme with "music," but it doesn't.
Twist is encouraged not to give up by Kiki, Shout, and Marina, who believe he can find the rhyme. Twist then goes over to the street telephone to see if "telephone" rhymes with music, but he realizes that it doesn't. Someone then calls the telephone, and Twist picks up the phone and says, "Hello?" to the caller, and thinks that the word "hello" could rhyme with "music." He realizes that those two words don't rhyme and hangs up the phone. Twist tries to find more rhymes for "music." He thought that the words "Marina's drumsticks," "Shout's ear," and "boom box" could rhyme with "music," but they didn't. Twist then plays music on Kiki's boom box, and he thought the word "music" would make a good rhyme, but since "music" and "music" are the same word, the rhyme won't be able to work.
Twist starts to get very stressed about finding a rhyme for "music." He gets stressed so much that he loses his voice. Since Twist couldn't talk and Kiki, Shout, and Marina couldn't get it right away that he had lost his voice, Twist had to represent his voice loss through a game of charades. By using his body, Twist acts out how he lost something, which the other Fresh Beats understood. Oddly enough, Shout thought that Twist had lost his picnic basket, even though Shout was holding it in his hands. Twist then uses his body to represent the fact that he lost his voice, and Marina gets it right, and Twist congratulates her with a party horn and gives her a thumbs up. Kiki and Shout came to the conclusion that because Twist rapped so much trying to find a rhyme for "music," he lost his voice. Now Twist can't talk. Since Twist wasn't able to talk, he wouldn't be able to finish his rap song for the picnic. Twist gives another charades demonstration to Kiki, Shout, and Marina. Based off of Twist's demonstration, they realize that Twist is making something by putting it into a blender and making it move around. Shout then comes to the conclusion that Twist wants to drink a smoothie.
The Fresh Beats all go to The Groovy Smoothie to get Twist a smoothie for his throat. They, of course, see Melody there, and they explain that Twist lost his voice and he really wanted to rap at the picnic. Twist visually explains to Melody how he wants a wiggly-giggly watermelon smoothie to make his throat feel better and possibly make his voice come back. Kiki, Shout, and Marina translate Twist's visual representation to Melody verbally. Melody serves Twist a wiggly-giggly watermelon smoothie, and then he drinks it. Twist tries to say something, but barely a sound comes out of his mouth.
Twist then starts to do his usual "Wouldn't it be cool if...?" sequence, and Marina translates it for him. Marina did have some trouble translating Twist's visual representation, but she eventually got the idea that Twist had in mind. Twist thought it would be cool to go to the fish store and buy a fish with a big mouth and teach it to rap a beat so it could rap for Twist at the picnic. Marina agrees that it was a cool idea, but she gives a more plausible idea by having her along with Kiki and Shout find a word for "music" and rap for Twist at the picnic. And even though Twist couldn't talk, Marina could tell that he would say, "Sure, if you want to do it the easy way."
The Fresh Beats all go to the park to set up for their picnic, and while they do so, Kiki, Shout, and Marina are helping Twist find a rhyme for "music." Kiki tries to think of words that could potentially rhyme with "music," including the words "blanket," "boom box," and "picnic basket." None of those rhymed with "music," so Shout tried to think of some rhymes. He thought maybe the words "park" or the phrase "picnic basket" could work, even though Kiki had already said that. He also thought "oranges" could rhyme with "music," but none of those words rhymed.
Shout then wished that there was some type of rhyme for "music," something like the word "chusic," even though that's not an actual word. Shout's word, which he just made up, gives Kiki and Marina an idea, and they both congratulate Shout for finding the solution. Shout was excited that he had found the solution, but he wasn't sure about what he did. Kiki then explained to Shout that he "found" a word that rhymes with "music": "chusic." Even though "chusic" isn't a word, it was fine because they could make up their own words when rapping. They could also include some other made-up words, including "busic," "gusic," and "cusic." Twist then miraculously starts to talk and gives examples of other made-up words to rhyme with "music," like "nusic," "zusic," "ridiley scottily usick," "flukilty flusic," and "skinnamarinky-dusic." Twist eventually realizes that he had the ability to speak, and Kiki concludes that finding a rhyme for "music" made his voice come back.
Since Twist had his voice back, he started to make up his own short rap while Marina gave him a beat to play. And eventually, the other Fresh Beats rap with him. When rapping, they tackle the idea that you can make up your own words if you don't have a rhyme for a word. Twist wants to sing another rap song and wants to have Kiki, Shout, and Marina sing along with him, so it would be the best rap ever. So the Fresh Beats sing the song "Rhyme Time," which again gives the message that when rapping you, can improvise and make up your own words.
The Fresh Beats finish their rap song, and they all have a great time doing so. Marina tells Twist that if he ever loses his voice again, she, along with Kiki and Shout, will always be there for him. Twist believes that he won't lose his voice again because he'll always have a rhyme for any word. As usual, the Fresh Beats end the day by singing "Great Day."
