Roblox is a video game platform released on September 1, 2006, that allows the player to create games (now known as experiences), clothes, have friends, and play games. It has an engine called Roblox Studio, allowing the player to create the games.
A lot of the very popular Roblox experiences has also referenced SpongeBob SquarePants such as Jailbreak, MeepCity, Work at a Pizza Place, Welcome to Bloxburg, Kitty, and Dandy's World.
Roblox hosted many Kids' Choice Awards events with avatar items such as a Nickelodeon slime bundle.
On October 1, 2012, there was a 2012 event for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series). It is called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Trouble". It had earnable avatar items such as the masks for the ninja turtles.
Roblox officially partnered up with Nickelodeon in 2015 and made a mini Invincibubble shoulder pal that the player can put on their avatar's shoulder. There was also an Invincibubble hat that the player could wear on top of their avatar's head. It is no longer available since it was specially released for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
During 2020 and 2021, Roblox had been removing lots of unofficial SpongeBob SquarePants experiences from the Roblox platform via DMCA takedowns initiated by Paramount Global, including popular SpongeBob Roblox experiences such as "The Spongy Construction Project," which were considered to be high quality. Many players expressed their anger towards Paramount for their actions as well as towards Gamefam for developing SpongeBob Simulator, revamping Sonic Speed Simulator, employee mistreatment, and more as SpongeBob Simulator picked up development.
An official Nickelodeon experience called Nickverse by Paramount Game Studios was released on March 31, 2022 officially featuring iconic Nickelodeon characters including SpongeBob SquarePants.
In 2023, Gamefam Studios partnered with Paramount and Nickelodeon to make an official Roblox experience for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem called TMNT: Battle Tycoon along with a game where users watch the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailers to earn UGC. The game was taken down on September 2, 2023 by Roblox for unknown reasons.
An NFL Nickmas Game event by Gamefam Studios began on December 14, 2023 and will end on December 25, 2023. Same as Super Bowl LVIII Nickelodeon Special Event.
An official SpongeBob SquarePants experience by Gamefam Studios called SpongeBob Simulator was announced and released in beta for 99 Robux and launched on February 2, 2024.
On February 2, 2024, same day as SpongeBob Simulator's launch, Gamefam hosted a Super Bowl LVIII: Live from Bikini Bottom cross promotional event for Super Bowl LVIII airing on Nickelodeon on February 11, 2024 as it is sponsored by Nickelodeon which the event features SpongeBob due to the Super Bowl special mainly featuring SpongeBob.
The player has to complete certain NFL related tasks around several Gamefam games, including SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT: Battle Tycoon, Super NFL Tycoon, Twilight Daycare, and Easy Obby to earn UGC and other prizes. SpongeBob himself also appears in the games that the event is sponsored in so that people can do the tasks. The event ended on February 19, 2024.
On March 15, 2024, Roblox has released its event called The Hunt: First Edition where UGC awards can be obtained from this event and the player must complete quests around several Roblox games. SpongeBob Simulator is included in this event.
On June 21, 2024, Gamefam and Nickelodeon sponsored a SpongeBob 25th Anniversary Event where the player can complete certain SpongeBob-themed tasks in several Gamefam games such as SpongeBob Simulator, TMNT Battle Tycoon, Car Dealership Tycoon, Tower of Misery, and Twilight Daycare. The event ended on July 18, 2024. Similar to the Super Bowl LVIII event, SpongeBob also appears in the Roblox games during the event.
On July 26, 2024, a cross promotional event promoting the Paramount+ original series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles occurred in which the player could have completed certain TMNT-related tasks in several Gamefam games such as TMNT Battle Tycoon, Sonic Speed Simulator, Weapon Fighting Simulator, and SpongeBob Simulator. The event ended on August 23, 2024.
Throughout October 2024, Roblox created the Rainbow SpongeBob accessory as they made it obtainable on the Walmart Roblox gift cards as an October exclusive as the player can put the Rainbow SpongeBob accessory onto their avatar's back, Jellyfish Surfing Patrick as a November exclusive as the player can put the Jellyfish Surfing Patrick accessory onto their avatar's shoulder, and Clarineting Squidward as a December exclusive as the player can put the Clarineting Squidward accessory onto their avatar's head.
Another official experience by Wonder Works Studios, SpongeBob Tower Defense, was released on December 21, 2024 and acts just like any other Tower Defense game on the platform. It shows that Nickelodeon is very interested with doing a lot with Roblox.
