"Rock the Luau" is the 20th episode of The Fresh Beat Band. This was the final episode that aired had Reed played by Hadley Fraser before Patrick Levis took over.
Summary[]
Twist is seen in the park laying on a chair, wearing sunglasses and drinking coconut water. Marina sees him and asks what he's doing. Twist tells her that he was laying down listening to beach-related sounds through his boombox. Marina reminds Twist that they have to go soon because everyone is setting up for the luau later. So, Twist turns off the beach sounds on his boom box and he, along with Marina, were about to go see Kiki and Shout. Marina notices two people playing ukuleles, which leads Marina to tell the viewer that she loves Hawaiian music. Twist asked Marina to carry his boom box, and when Marina picked it up, her arm started to move around uncontrollably. Once those people stopped playing their ukuleles, Marina's arm stopped moving, and Twist got the boom box from Marina. As Twist started to go to Kiki and Shout, Marina looked at her hands, understandably wondering why they were moving weirdly.
Later, as Marina and Twist were walking together, Twist started running very quickly, rushing to find Kiki and Shout. Twist eventually passed by Kiki and Shout, and he went so fast that he didn't even notice them until a few seconds later. The Fresh Beats all say "aloha" to each other, which means "hello" in Hawaiian. Shout and Kiki remind the other Fresh Beats that they have to get ready for the luau happening later. So before getting ready for the luau, the Fresh Beats sing the song "Let's Dance Everyone."
After the Fresh Beats sang the song, they went inside of their apartment to make leis for the luau. So the Fresh Beats poured out flowers from the baskets, and at first, it didn't seem like there were going to be enough flowers to make leis for everybody at the luau. So Twist gets another basket, opens it, and then lots of flowers come flying out of it. There were so many flowers that they formed into a huge pile, covering Kiki, Shout, and Marina up. Kiki, Shout, and Marina eventually came out of that huge pile, and before they started to make leis, Kiki suggested that they all get dressed into different clothes to get into the Hawaiian mood.
The Fresh Beats came out of their rooms dressed in different Hawaiian-style clothing. Twist, however, comes out of the giant pile of flowers in his Hawaiian outfit, drinking some coconut water. Twist says that he has coconut leaves to make baskets and hats. Marina says that making baskets, hats, and leis is a lot of work to do. But Shout assures her that they will all work together. And Kiki concludes Shout's statement by saying that friends give friends a hand. As expected, the Fresh Beats sing an extended version of the song "Friends Give Friends A Hand" while making baskets, hats, and leis.
The Fresh Beats finished making all of the baskets, hats, and leis, and they went over to The Good Note Music Store, where Reed is seen playing a lap steel guitar. Reed eventually stops playing his lap steel guitar, and the Fresh Beats tell him that they need Hawaiian instruments for the luau. Luckily, Reed had all the instruments the Fresh Beats needed. Kiki saw a ukulele and thought it was perfect for her to play. Shout decided to play the ʻulīʻulī rattle. Twist decided to play some rocks that he found. Reed assures him that those weren't rocks, but 'ili'ili stones that tap together in order to make sound. Twist played the 'ili'ili stones and jokingly said that they rock. Twist changed his mind and decided to play the pahu drum.
Marina was the only one who still needed an instrument to play. Marina was trying to tell Reed the instrument she wanted to play, but as Twist, Kiki, and Shout started to play their Hawaiian instruments, Marina's hips started to move crazily and led her away from The Good Note Music Store. Twist, Kiki, and Shout stop playing their Hawaiian instruments, and Marina comes back to The Good Note. Marina reveals that she was trying to say "drum," meaning that she wanted to play the drum. She also says, needless to say, that her hips started moving. Marina's hips started moving again while Twist, Kiki, and Shout again started to play the Hawaiian instruments. Understandably, Reed asks Marina what's going on, and she replies that she doesn't know. She also explains that her hands were moving in the park and now her hips were being affected. She then theorizes that her body was trying to tell her something.
Marina's dancing eventually leads her to Twist, where he suggests that maybe Marina's body was trying to tell her that she should play the pahu drum. Marina eventually dances over to Shout, and he theorizes that maybe Marina's body wants to play the ʻulīʻulī rattle. Marina lastly dances over to Kiki, and she thinks that Marina's body is telling her to play the ukulele. Twist, Kiki, and Shout eventually stop playing their Hawaiian instruments, and Marina stops dancing. Marina then reveals that she actually wants to play the ipu hand drum. Reed gives Marina the ipu hand drum, and Twist, Kiki, and Shout play their Hawaiian instruments again, and Marina dances off to the park while playing the ipu hand drum. Twist, Kiki, and Shout try to catch up with Marina and say "aloha" to Reed as they go off. Reed then explains to the viewer that "aloha" means both "hello" and "goodbye" in Hawaiian.
The Fresh Beats eventually made it to the luau in the park, and Marina's hips stopped moving in the process. The Fresh Beats see Melody, and she says that she can't wait to hear them play Hawaiian music. She also says that she has smoothies for the Fresh Beats to drink, including Polynesian pineapple and cool coconut flavors. Melody then helped by passing out the leis that the Fresh Beats made. The Fresh Beats were ready to get the luau started, so they practiced playing their Hawaiian music. Again, Marina's arms started to move and then her hands started to softly slap Twist's face. Marina's arms were then caused to hug Kiki, and eventually her hands waved in front of Shout's face, which caused Marina to arch over him. Marina's arms also waved in front of Kiki.
Marina couldn't play the drums with her body dancing out of control, so Shout suggested that if he held the ipu drum, Marina could be able to play it more easily. So Shout took the ipu drum away from Marina, and she attempted to play it while dancing. Shout even constantly switched from side-to-side of Marina since she kept dancing in different directions. Evidently, that tactic didn't work and ended up being a chaotic process. Marina's dancing starts to get so out of control that she bumps Kiki and Shout away. Twist, at first, does try to avoid it, but then Marina comes behind him and accidentally knocks him down with her dancing. Marina eventually stops dancing, and understandably, Twist, Kiki, and Shout start questioning Marina to see if it was okay to come near her. So far, Marina seemed to be safe.
Marina definitely couldn't play the ipu drum while dancing all crazily, and the other Fresh Beats didn't want to play at the luau without her. Twist then thought of an idea to go to the yo-yo store to get a big, giant bouncy yo-yo. And instead of the actual yo-yo at the end of the string, it was Marina's ipu drum so that she could play it no matter what her hands were doing. Marina thinks that that is a cool idea, but she gives the more plausible idea of figuring out what her hips and hands were trying to tell her. Reed then comes over, hoping he didn't miss the Fresh Beats playing music. Kiki, Shout, and Twist explain that they were trying to play some music, but every time they did, Marina started to move all crazily. Kiki then tells Reed that they were thinking that Marina's body was trying to tell her something, but they were unsure of what specifically it was. Since Marina couldn't play music at the luau, she was unsure of what to do for the luau.
Twist, Kiki, and Shout start to play their Hawaiian instruments, and Marina starts to dance again. Marina tries to stop herself from dancing, but it doesn't work. Melody then comes over and compliments Marina's hula dancing. Marina was unaware of the fact that she was hula dancing, and Melody told her that her body was telling a story. Naturally, Marina and Shout were curious about the story Marina's body was telling. So Melody tells them that Marina's body was telling the story of coming to the park to be with friends and hula dance. Marina realizes the fact that her body was telling her a story, and Shout adds on that it's the reason why Marina has been hula dancing every time she hears Hawaiian music. Kiki and Twist conclude that since Marina can hula dance really well, she can dance the hula at the luau. So the luau started, and at the luau, the Fresh Beats performed the song "Rock the Luau" while dancing the hula.
The luau ended and everyone enjoyed it as always. Marina's hula dancing was complimented by Melody and Kiki, who told her that she really rocked the luau. Twist, Kiki, Shout, and Reed tried playing Hawaiian music again to see if Marina would start dancing, but surprisingly, her hands and hips weren't moving anymore. Marina suggests that her hula hands and hula hips have gone away because they have already told their story. Marina then plays a little bit of the ipu drum, and this time without anyone holding it for her. She then concludes the episode by saying, "ha'la maika'i," which, in Hawaiian, means, "what a great day."
