SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is a remake of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, released for the Nintendo SwitchPlayStation 4Xbox One and PC on June 23, 2020, and later on Google Stadia on December 8th of the same year, with an Android and iOS port coming on January 21, 2021. Like the original game, the player controls SpongeBobPatrick, and Sandy to save Bikini Bottom from the robot army accidentally created by Plankton. A new multiplayer mode was added, along with content that was cut from the original version.

The game was officially announced by THQ Nordic on June 5, 2019. It is notably the first Nickelodeon game to be published by THQ Nordic, and the first Nickelodeon video game to be released through Steam.

Plot

The game will follow the same plot as the original. THQ Nordic's announcement featured the following overview:

Are you ready, kids? The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs. Want to save Bikini Bottom from lots of rampant robots? Of course you do! Want to underpants bungee jump? Why wouldn’t you! Want to join forces in a brand new multiplayer mode? The battle is on!

Trivia

  • On the game's Steam page, the game's minimum and recommended system requirements read "I'm ready!", in reference to SpongeBob's catch phrase. The scheduled release date was "(When) I'm ready!"
  • This is the first SpongeBob SquarePants related game to be released after the Lifetime of show creator Stephen Hillenburg.
