The SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song (CHALLENGE VERSION)! 🍍 Nick Sing-a-Long Challenge

The SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song is, as its title suggests, the song that opens every episode of SpongeBob SquarePants and also appears in all of the movies, as well as being used as the closing number for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical.

The credits for the episodes "Texas" and "Walking Small" featured Junior Brown performing a country-themed cover version of the song. Unfortunately, this was plastered over in the episode's home video releases, and is not heard on current airings due to Nickelodeon displaying the show's credits during the last minute of the show.

Special versions of the theme song, with slightly altered lyrics, were featured in the episodes "Christmas Who?", "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?", and "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" In addition, "Truth or Square" and "The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom" opened with stop-motion versions of the opening. "Truth or Square" also featured parody versions of the song, focusing on Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs. SpongeBob himself also briefly sings the song in the episodes "Old Man Patrick" and "Handemonium", doing so in the latter instance to recruit Hans' help in the current situation.

The theme song was also covered by Avril Lavigne for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack, and was used for several commercials for the film (one of which was the music video itself) and the documentary Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants.

The HD version

The regular opening sequence was re-animated in HD widescreen in 2016, with "Lame and Fortune" being the first episode to use the new version.

A special birthday version of the song featuring celebrity guests was featured at the end of the episode "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout".

A promo for Nickelodeon's airing of Super Bowl LVIII features a specially-themed version of the song.
